In this invite-only event’s second year, the Minnesota Senior State meet drew in 35 lifters. Notable was the fact that there were 20 women out of the 35 competitors. This continues the trend seen in MN (and across the country) of a greater interest in powerlifting by women and this is GREAT. In the upcoming years, USA Powerlifting in MN will be working to continue facilitating interest in our sport among women as well as creating ways to accommodate this growing segment of the lifting population. American Strength Training Center hosted the MN Senior State meet again this year. This is a great venue for an event and a great gym for powerlifters and strength athletes. Many thanks go to Ken Graack and his staff for their hospitality and generosity when hosting USA Powerlifting events. Ken and his staff worked tirelessly to make sure every detail was covered. Many records were broken at the event; the meet results have been posted in the results section of the state website and the new state records set at the meet can be found here. All state records have been updated and can be found here (see “Latest Changes” for the newest additions). Three lifters set American records (AR) at the meet. Tammy Lauer broke the Master 2a AR in the 139 lb class in the bench press with 151.0 lb (this broke the three-lift and single-lift AR). Dean Johnson broke the Military AR in the 183 lb class in the squat with 523.6 lb. Pat Beaumaster broke the Master 2a AR in the 163 lb class in the squat and deadlift with lifts of 408.9 lb and 508.1 lb, respectively. Please contact the state chair if there are any errors or omissions in the state records. Look for updates to the MN USA Powerlifting 2016 event schedule in January. In the meantime, if you want to lift in the MN State meet on February 20, get your entry in as soon as possible. As of right now, nearly 100 lifters have already entered meaning there are only about 30 spots left.
